Remove white oxidation, chalky film, and salt air corrosion from your pool enclosure frame. Restore the appearance of your cage and clear HOA violations without a full replacement.
Aluminum oxidation is not a sign that you bought the wrong material โ it's a natural chemical reaction that happens to all aluminum in humid, salt-laden coastal environments. When aluminum is exposed to oxygen, it forms a layer of aluminum oxide on the surface. In most environments this oxide layer is thin and actually protective. But in South Florida's climate โ high humidity, salt air, UV radiation, and chemical exposure from pool water and deck treatments โ the oxide layer builds up into a thick, chalky white coating that's both cosmetically unappealing and structurally problematic if left untreated.
In Broward County, aluminum cage frames typically begin to show noticeable oxidation within 10โ15 years. On properties closer to the coast, or in western communities like Davie and Weston where irrigation water has high mineral content, oxidation can become visually significant in as few as 7โ10 years.
Oxidized pool cage frames are among the most frequently issued exterior violations by Broward County HOAs. The appearance of white, chalky aluminum is inconsistent with community aesthetic standards even when the structure is perfectly sound. We can typically schedule an oxidation restoration job within the same week you call, giving you enough time to schedule a re-inspection before a violation escalates to a fine.
Aluminum restoration is not a single-step job. It requires chemical cleaning, mechanical abrasion in some cases, rinsing, drying, and a protective treatment application. Here's what we do:
Step 1 โ Chemical treatment: We apply an aluminum-specific cleaning solution that reacts with and loosens the oxide layer without damaging the underlying metal or the pool screen. The product is pool-safe once rinsed.
Step 2 โ Agitation and scrubbing: On frames with heavy oxidation buildup, the cleaning solution alone isn't enough. We use non-abrasive scrubbing pads to physically remove the softened oxide layer from all frame surfaces โ uprights, cross members, spline channels, and base connectors.
Step 3 โ High-pressure rinse: The entire frame is rinsed with clean water to remove all cleaning solution and dissolved oxide residue. We protect your pool and landscaping during this step.
Step 4 โ Protective coating: After the frame dries, we apply a clear aluminum protectant that seals the cleaned surface and significantly slows re-oxidation. This extends the time before the frame needs treatment again โ typically adding 3โ5 additional years of clean appearance versus an untreated frame in the same environment.
Oxidation that is purely cosmetic โ surface-level white coating with no pitting or structural thinning of the aluminum โ responds very well to restoration. If the underlying metal is sound (meaning the frame doesn't flex excessively, the members are intact, and there's no deep pitting), restoration is always the more cost-effective choice compared to full frame replacement.
If, however, the aluminum has reached the pitting stage โ where the oxide has gone deeper than the surface and you can see cratered or rough texture on the metal โ restoration cleans the surface but does not repair the pitted metal. Pitted aluminum members have reduced structural strength and should be evaluated for replacement. We give honest assessments on this and will tell you clearly what restoration can and can't do for your specific cage.
The best time to do aluminum restoration is during a rescreen โ the frame is fully accessible and the new screen looks even better on a clean frame.
Replace corroded or pitted sections before applying protective coating to the rest of the frame.
Door frames oxidize faster than other sections due to their handling exposure. We restore and repair in one visit.
Send us a photo of your cage frame and we can give you a ballpark price before we even visit.
