Seasonal Pool Screen Maintenance Checklist for South Florida

A simple maintenance calendar to extend the life of your pool screen enclosure through Florida storm season.

Before Storm Season (May)

Walk the enclosure and look for loose spline, sagging panels, torn mesh and screws backing out of connectors. Trim branches overhanging the cage. Check that the screen door latches and closes squarely.

During Storm Season (June–November)

After heavy wind events, inspect for new tears and bent members. Rinse salt and debris from the frame. Clear leaves from roof panels, since built-up debris adds load and holds moisture against the aluminum.

After the Season (December)

Look at the mesh against bright sky. If it appears gray or faded instead of dark charcoal, the UV coating is gone. If more than about 30% of panels are torn, faded or sagging, a full rescreen is usually more cost-effective than patching.

Aluminum Care

Chalky white film on the frame is oxidation, accelerated by humidity and salt air. Rinse regularly and consider aluminum restoration before it pits the metal.

Typical Lifespan

Screen panels commonly last 8–12 years in South Florida. Frames last decades with maintenance but corrode faster in coastal air.
